Hello Truth,
I hope you all are having a good week. I had the opportunity to put the committed action in to play this week. We have had some trouble getting our financial reports back from our CFO. We’ve had a change in our software that we are using. Understandably, she has had a difficult time getting everything reconciled. However, we have been waiting now for over a month and a half and my partners are getting frustrated. I emailed and asked her when she would have them done. She assured me they would be done the next day. Unfortunately, she did not finish in the next day. She did not respond and let me know why she had not completed her task. In our board meeting on Tuesday night, I had the opportunity to calmly confront her and ask for committed action to get the reports out. The rest of my partners were ready to fire her. She committed to getting the numbers out the next day in front of the group. And she was able to accomplish that.
It was a good lesson because I did not give her a clear expectation the first ask. I also find that I often don’t do committed action asks until I am frustrated. Proactively I should try to do these with appropriate requests on the front end to avoid a frustrating ask out of desperation on the backend.
