Had to reply to this one as I too have struggled with trying to learn Spanish and have been full on dabbler.  I have been using an app (Duolingo) and have started, gotten really into it (maybe even obsessive) but then stop because of time conflicts and as an ultra competitive person, I hate "not winning" in their gamification model.

After going through the mastery content here, I have created a different challenge for myself which is a more Kaizen (sp?) approach in which the goal is only 1 lesson (~10min) a day.  Even if I have more time, I'm stopping myself to prevent my competitiveness from taking over.  That way, the only goal is to count the days, not the score or the amount of time taken.

Have considered sending Duolingo a recommendation for a Kaizen-mode but that would take more than 10min, haha!

Kaizen and here's to being fully conversant when I'm 70!

     I love to learn about self help and business related topics. I believe intelligence is fluid and by giving it effort it can be increased. I have a learner mentality in this area but when it comes to speaking another language I have given effort but it hasn't came easily to me. I have been a dabbler and additional effort has done little to help increase my ability to converse with other people in a different language. I haven't seen this frustration as a natural part of the learning experience . The other issue is just deciding what is most important way to spend my time on the many possibilities and speaking another language hasn't made the cut for me to devote the time .
