Active Listening & Professional Goals Tammy Smith 15 May 2015 16:55 UTC

While in South Korea, Mark & I practiced the most Active Listening I think we’ve ever done! During the years leading up to this moment of expanding into S. Korea, we had a specific system-one that replicated what we had done in the US-we planned to grow Korea with. Upon having “boots on the ground” we became more aware of the cultural differences, the clear difference of being a US-based company and the stigma that comes with being so distant. After actively listening to many top leaders interested in joining Nerium, they shared how & why they had been able to be so successful-which slightly differed in business practices in America. It was eye-opening to come to the realization of the differences & the dialog was much appreciated for the leaders we were speaking with as they enjoyed being heard and taken serious by company executives. Each person we met with expressed gratitude that we would be open to hearing what others have done, along with being genuinely interested in what they had to say. They loved that we would actually take their input into consideration.

It has always been a goal, from a company standpoint, to create a solid culture within our field. This culture would be an “All for 1, and 1 for all” attitude. We have created just that within the US. Within sales it will be an ever-growing challenge to duplicate this throughout the world. Concerns of “who would be our future field leaders in these new countries we open that would operate under this same attitude, how would they embrace exactly what we have in the US, how can we trust that we can continue to be that 1 Network Marketing company that positively differs from all the others…”. As I realize culture is something we will continue to fight/strive for, we have demonstrated great leadership with our US field leaders, thus far, in taking it upon themselves to replicate what we stand for throughout these new countries we expand into. Something incredible happened in Korea with some of our field leaders that proved to us that we have an army of leaders that want the same culture throughout the world.

Thank you,

Tammy Smith
