Like Renee, the core value I shared yesterday was balance, which is one of
my overarching themes. My supporting words under that core value are:
personal development, consistency, reliability, pragmatism, peace, and
humility, which will help me flesh out my guiding principle on this core
value. I think focusing on balance in regards to each of the areas above
will help me ³walk the talk² on my other broad core value themes, which
are: strong relationships, achievement, morality, love, and fun. If I
don¹t have balance, my other core values will be neglected because I will
be too focused on the wrong things. I hung my core values sheet above my
computer at work so I can see them and remind myself of my core values
throughout the day.
In regards to attention management, I found a way to overcome the glass
wall challenge: I stuck large white sheets of paper across the glass to
break eye contact and provide some privacy. Then I wrote my office hours
by my door to help educate my environment. I told my team that I always
want to be available to them, but that it¹s very important to create focus
in order to enhance effectiveness and I wasn¹t able to do that with the
distractions the glass created. Now they know which designated hours I¹m
available to help and that when my door is open, they can always come in.
So far, so good! Having my office hours physically posted, blocking line
of sight, and educating my environment made all the difference. Amber had
a great idea of getting some sort of blinds to provide the option of
opening or closing them, which would be a big help and possibly more
inviting than sheets of paper. :)
Have a great weekend!
