Today I met with one of my direct reports who has been developing a presentation outlining strategic direction for our Talent Management function.
I did a little bit of game filming before the meeting to prepare myself to be in the role of a coach and learner versus a knower. I started the meeting by asking her "what do you think about the presentation" she gave me her thoughts and I followed up with "what is your challenge in this presentation" and "what do you need to do to overcome that challenge". We discussed her challenges and desired end state and I think she came to the conclusion she really had met her challenges and was comfortable with her own messaging.  I did not recommend any changes other than flipping the sequence of two slides. I finished the conversation in a supportive fashion asking her if she needed any help from me and was this conversation useful.
I think she felt good about her progress and support provided.
