After practicing active listening I am getting better about not jumping in and I am catching myself before doing it.
Once I let someone begin speaking and make myself aware that this is there time I am finding that most of the time I can stay engaged and don't find it necessary to add my two cents. Also, I find that people love not being interrupted and a lot of times while they are talking they feel a lot better just having someone listen.
I now have Jeremy from our sales team that held everything in when he was frustrated until he blew up, grabbing me more often and asking if we can talk, which means will you listen to me and I know to shut up and listen.
I don't have that same relationship with all of my team but I am working on it.
At home, if my wife comes up to talk and I am doing something I say hold on one minute and let me finish this before listening so I can focus and her. At the beginning she did not like this but now having my full attention I feel she realizes that I am trying to wrap up to be focused on her and not distracted.
Have a great memorial day weekend!!
