Constructive feedback Jim Wilhelm 22 Mar 2019 17:31 UTC
Hello everyone,

Monica, Jim and I had a great call today. At the end of the call Monica listened to me describe a situation at work that I am trying to address, before I do I am trying to determine which facts I know versus the story I am telling myself. Monica - thank you for listening to me and helping me work through it.

In regards to constructive feedback from this week, the owner of our company grabbed me and asked if he could give me some constructive feedback about one of my employee's. I said yes and shut up and listened. I listened for over ten minutes and heard his feedback and recommendations on how to address, I took notes to be able to recap at the end. Once I decided to listen, I didn't jump in to defend my team member and really was in the learner mindset. What he said was very good feedback and I could of easily told myself he was attacking me but I didn't feel that way at all. I performance journaled the event and when it asked "my thoughts". I was thinking I am learning and this isn't so bad listening vs defending my case.

Afterwards he commented on me listening and not defending and was very happy, he has been through the ILP and is investing in me and told me his investment was paying out :).

I hope you all have a great weekend!
