I had a great session with Tony earlier this week.

We spoke about an important Nurse Practitioner I hired that was causing organizational and operational trouble for me and who i was set to speak with an hour later.

Confused which of my 10 points I should begin discussing with her and concerned she would get upset with me and quit Tony suggested that I layout what I really wanted her to understand.

So I did. I explained my relationship to the hospital and how it differs from other med/surg units. i explained how  I’ve seen other drs and NP’s perform her role and I asked what is going on that makes her execution of the role have a different outcome than the others.

Two interesting things happened.
1. She simply said she had no idea our unit was different then the rest of the hospital and that she would immediately make a change in her consults.
2. This weekend she cut out half the amount of time it took her to perform the same task.

Interestingly having game filmed the conversation prior to having it felt great and I was amazed how Tony’s 1 comment about starting with what it is i need her to understand made it possible.
