I tried a "telling myself stories" meeting late last week with a colleague.  He is a peer who works in a separate organization that can have an impact on our business.  I initially formulated a plan to be very direct with him regarding the "story I'm telling myself," relating to follow-up action (inaction) from a prior meeting.  But I ended up taking a more indirect approach, mostly out of concern about prompting a defensive reaction and potentially avoidant behavior going forward from a peer who I am seeking to influence.

I don't yet know if my more indirect approach was effective, though I'll know soon enough.  I'll have a sense in a week or two whether a more direct use of the "telling myself stories" approach is required in a follow-up.  At a minimum, the conversation last week will provide another factual data point.  I'll keep the group posted!
