I'm having trouble narrowing it down to a single benefit. Application of ILP concepts has helped me rely less immediately (or solely) on my intuition and first impulse. Through the completion of the performance log, on paper or in my head, I've appreciated the value of breaking down what's happening and better understanding the context. This has led to far fewer regrets about how and what I've communicated in tense situations. I remain fascinated by the Vision component of the performance journal where we describe our desired outcome. It makes such common sense that this question should guide our behavior, but it's definitely not been a big enough part of my focus before performance journaling.
