The CEO of my company and I are negotiating a deal and have been working with an investment bank. Our Board threw a wrench in our progression and this threatened the working relationship we have built. They were pretty irate.

In performance journaling the conversation, I realized that the problem was that we had not properly given the bank the right framing of the request. We re-framed our Board’s POV and explained why it wasn’t a huge departure from our current plans. 

The performance journal helped me more clearly see the problem. Reframing the situation for our partners helped them understand the clear logic of the large departure from our original plans.
