Thank you! I hadn't even heard of the books when I started the HBO series. Once the series ends, I may pick up the books in an attempt to quell my GoT fix. I actually cross-checked with an ILP leader to make sure the assignment was really to identify 2 TV/movie characters for each mindset before embarking on this. It was confirmed so my characters are from Game of Thrones (GoT). WARNING – Spoilers ahead!! Red Cersei Lannister is definitely in the red camp. A few descriptions of the red mindset – unrestrained, action-oriented, unrestrained by consequences, fearless, takes risk, immediate gratification, challenge and conquer adversaries. Let’s recall the time Cersei used wildfire to destroy the Great Sept of Baelor, along with her son’s wife and hundreds of others. Her actions directly led to the suicide of her last living son. Her willing to take risks led her to sending her brother Jamie and army into battle against an enemy with 3 dragons. Granted she thought she had a weapon to kill the dragons, but her fearlessness and risk-taking led to her army’s complete annihilation. For the second red mindset, I put forth Joffrey Baratheon. As they say, an apple cannot fall too far from the tree. When Joffrey felt wronged, he would immediate react. When hit with a cow pie, he ordered the deaths of hundreds of peasants. He later ordered the death of all of his father’s illegitimate children in order to preserve his right to the crown. Blue The blue mindset characteristics include duty, justice, “Do the right thing”. Of all the GoT characters, Eddard Stark is most aligned with the blue mindset. He promised his sister who was on her death bed to protect the true identity of her only child. Eddard did so to the detriment of his own relationship with his wife. When he was appointed Hand of the King, he began investigating certain matters involving the Cersei and Jamie Lannister. Eddard’s quest for the truth and justice ultimately lead to his beheading. For the second blue mindset, I suggest Brienne of Tarth. Perhaps not an obvious blue as she did break with tradition (a blue mindset characteristic) by refusing to be called a “Lady” even though she has that birthright. However, Brienne has a great sense of duty. She swore to an oath to Catelyn Stark. Catelyn sent Brienne on a long, dangerous journey. Even during the worst of times, Brienne maintained her sense of duty and stayed the course given the oath she had taken. She displayed her sense of duty/loyalty/tradition by naming her Valyrian steel sword “Oathkeeper”. Orange I have heard colleagues refer to orange as the “nice” or “good” mindset given the characteristics of drive, winning, advancement, status, prestige. Here’s my twist on the orange mindset - Lord Petyr “ Littlefinger” Baelish. He owns brothels to collect intelligence on political rivals and acquire significant wealth. Littlefinger is singularly focused on winning the Iron Throne, which leads him to killing his wife, killing Eddark Stark, and manipulating Sansa Stark into a marriage with a sadomasochist. He constantly advances his agenda above all else for the prestige/status of being King. Summing up Littlefinger’s drive with his own quote: Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or the gods, or love... illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is. For the second orange mindset, I am going with another skilled manipulator - Lord Varys. He has advanced himself from having been born a slave to a wealthy individual who serves as Master of Whisperers (the spymaster for the King of the Seven Kingdoms). The façade he has developed disarms people to his advantage and advancement. Green I am going with this woman’s given name, Daenerys Targaryen, versus all the titles she acquired by conquering various enemies. (See attached meme) Throughout her “acquisitions”, she has always maintained the goal of improving the lives of those conquered - freeing the Unsullied (or slaves) as an example. For the second green mindset, I suggest……..Seriously, have you watched GoT? There is very little green and I am doing well with identifying one!!
