I happen to agree with many of your statements re: trials and attorneys on TV or in the cinema - it is designed to create maximum drama. No different than watching people playing poker on ESPN or Travel Channel. It is such a joke - the drama you see on TV is about 5% of how poker is actually played, especially in big tournaments.

Clearly you need to watch the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (season 1, episodes 12 & 13) so you can have two exceptions to your objective and unbiased rule. Pretty much hits on each of your points below.in a NSFW manner.

So.12 Angry Men. I have to say that I really really really dislike movies about lawyers and juries, books about lawyers, and anything else fabricated for entertainment about lawyers, trials, and juries. I don't like watching/reading about them, I don't like discussing them, I don't like the ridiculousness about them, and I hate that fact that most people think that's how trial lawyers actually work and represent their clients. And I especially get annoyed when there's live streaming of trials and you only get part of the whole picture or get annoying people commenting on each and every little thing who have little background in what a trial is like, what role the lawyers play, and how they interact with the judge and the jury.
My only only exception (which is not 12 Angry Men) are reruns of Matlock. Yes, I'm for real. I just like Andy Griffin.

So, as you can imagine, this particular journaling and reading of email posts has been excruciating for me. Dramatic background sound for effect here. And watching 12 Angry Men is like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard for 90 minutes.

I also watched the movie this weekend. I thought that the ladder of influence concept was the key here, and how important it is to question your assumptions, invite other viewpoints, and really try to understand others' point of view. It was clear that many of the jurors had negative perceptions of the accused which clouded their willingness to consider the facts, and would have led them to an incredibly unjust conclusion. The movie was really superb - it's been a while since I've watched a movie without any CGI special effects or outrageous/sensational plot devices, relying on natural, straightforward, and powerful acting and writing to create immense drama.

I enjoyed watching the 12 Angry Men movie. I had never seen it before, so it was totally new to me. The most significant insight for me was the importance of the "telling ourselves stories" aspect throughout the movie. I enjoyed watching how the jurors automatically assumed the others' opinions and backgrounds. I think this entire film was a good reminder to me of this concept and how it can unknowingly play a role in our day to day.
