Reminds me of an example of that when I was at Audax. Not of how excessive thinking would create havoc or render you ineffective, but rather how it can convince yourself of an untruth.
Audax PE had invested $50MM into Indian motorcycle which was just a brand at the time. They created a full line of vehicles and dealer network, but then ran out of money. Question internally was whether to pump another $50MM in or not. I was on Investment Committee at the time and recall marveling at having received over 1,000 page investment memo from the PE-team. I remember IC was bifurcated by those who read it and didn't. Those who did read it were supportive of additional capital infusion. Those who didn't were against.
Turned out the follow-on was made and Audax PE lost $100MM in that one deal.
