I applaud your honesty and your introspective approach Marie. Bravo for achieving the end result as well.

If you want an academic interpretation of your emotional responses and likewise, if you are a reader, then I suggest, to you or anyone for that matter, picking up the book titled "Emotional Intelligence" by Daniel Goleman. When I was a partner at Audax Mezzanine, one of the founders, Geoffrey Rehnert, who was also one of the four original founding members of Bain Capital, shared this book with me for Christmas one year after he had just read it. It changed my life.

I have found that it helps to supplement the Stagen principles with outside sources to develop even more angles of interpretation and understanding.

The following is an excerpt from Daniel Goleman's bio on this piece of literature:

The Harvard Business Review called emotional intelligence- which discounts IQ as the sole measure of one's abilities - "a revolutionary, paradigm-shattering idea" and chose his article "What Makes a Leader" as one of ten "must-read" articles from its pages. Emotional Intelligence was named one of the 25 "Most Influential Business Management Books" by TIME Magazine. The Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and Accenture Insititute for Strategic Change have listed Goleman among the most influential business thinkers.

Because your human. And applying the rational to the irrational can be frustrating. Sounds like you handled it quite well.

Over the last few weeks, I have been working with a colleague and one of our Fund investors to help them secure approval to increase their investment by $100MM in one of our proprietary funds. The Q&A was exhaustive, and in certain instances duplicative. This investor knows us very well and we spent a ton of time with them prior to the business sale last year. Knowing how important this piece of business is for our FY 18 plan, I kept it together.

Maybe it was timing - two business days in a row at the end of the day (Friday and Monday), just when we thought we had answered all of their questions, additional questions surfaced again, each becoming more hypothetical in nature. My colleague took the brunt of my frustration, even though he qualified the last few requests with a "please don't shoot me."

There was no reason for me to feel overwhelmed and frustrated. The outcome I wanted was very clear - to get their approval. So why did I waste time negatively reacting to their line of questioning?

I am better than this!

And yes, final approval came through yesterday with a note from the investor thanking us for our great feedback and responsiveness. .
