Because your human. And applying the rational to the irrational can be frustrating. Sounds like you handled it quite well.

Over the last few weeks, I have been working with a colleague and one of our Fund investors to help them secure approval to increase their investment by $100MM in one of our proprietary funds. The Q&A was exhaustive, and in certain instances duplicative. This investor knows us very well and we spent a ton of time with them prior to the business sale last year. Knowing how important this piece of business is for our FY 18 plan, I kept it together.
Maybe it was timing - two business days in a row at the end of the day (Friday and Monday), just when we thought we had answered all of their questions, additional questions surfaced again, each becoming more hypothetical in nature. My colleague took the brunt of my frustration, even though he qualified the last few requests with a “please don’t shoot me.”
There was no reason for me to feel overwhelmed and frustrated. The outcome I wanted was very clear – to get their approval. So why did I waste time negatively reacting to their line of questioning?
I am better than this!
And yes, final approval came through yesterday with a note from the investor thanking us for our great feedback and responsiveness. …
