I have recently been in and guided a few meetings via counsel mode.

My observations are:
#1 It forces orderly flow of communication.
#2 It forces better listening. When you know you are in listen only mode you are not as tempted to quit listening and start formulating questions
#3 It allows you to exhaust your thoughts before being interrupted and taking you off track.
