I think the most natural leadership style for me is Strategic Leadership. I have set the strategic direction for our company since day one and continue to do so today. Once the agenda is set, I have tried to find ways to motivate people financially to achieve the end goals. However, I think this direction has its limits. It often leads me to a place of autocratic leadership, where everyone is counting on me to make the decision. My wife often refers to my leadership style as a benign dictatorship. Because of this, I would really like to strengthen my collaborative leadership. I think for my company to continue to grow, and for our senior management team to remain engaged, we need a vision that is developed by our team, not just me. I need to figure out how to get everyone to buy in to where we're going, and in many ways, for them to make the decision. The ideas and projects I want to pursue aren't necessarily the best direction for our staff - they're not sure money makers or logical next steps. I need to become a collaborative leader so our staff can develop a vision they want to work to achieve, allowing me to pursue strategic initiatives outside the company and not jeopardize our long term viability.
I think collaborative leadership gets us there?
