Telling Ourselves Stories Anne Alexander 08 May 2017 05:24 UTC

One challenge Lisa had made for me was to get in front of our CEO more. We have a scheduled bi-weekly one-on-one but it gets cancelled on short notice frequently. Until last week we hadn't met in two months.

The story I was telling myself was that he didn't find the conversations we had and therefore my work valuable.

I failed to properly check-in because I did not use "the story I'm telling myself" intro. I instead brought up that I thought it was important that he and I work directly together more.

As it turns out he really wants less interaction with everyone. Not really the result I was looking for but at least I'm not left guessing and assuming it's just me!

Like Kim, I'm interested to hear how someone not familiar with the "story" premise reacts to that verbiage.

Thanks all!
