Re: Active Listening or was I?

Thanks for sharing, David!
Isn¹t it amazing what we can learn from ³the kiddos?² As a relatively new
³bonus² mom to my husband¹s two teenage children (McKenzie - 16 and
Jackson - 13), I am constantly reminded of our ILP practices. They have
been an invaluable mirror for both Roger and me. As an example, when
McKenzie asks for guidance on a project and he or I begin to occupy the
Rescuer station in the Drama Triangle, she reminds us to ³Stop
micromanaging her! ² She simply needs a little help and doesn¹t need us
to solve the problem for her or tell her exactly what to do. D¹oh!
Through her bluntness, she serves as a reminder of the many times that I
have succumbed to the temptation to ³fix² or ³solve² for my former direct
reports and even current clients - and helps me get back into the Coach
mindset.
The story I tell myself is that she feels safe enough with us to speak
plainly, with no sugar coating needed. I¹m inspired by her level of
self-confidence and desire to figure it out on her own and grateful for
the regular reminders to keep me walking my talk.
Best,
Lisa
