I am working with a subcontractor to repair roofing, windows and siding on my father’s house. Yeah, I used to run a mid sized company and now I do this. After 40 years, I had some skills as an executive leading high achievers. I suck at being a general contractor managing subs. I think that maybe the four mindsets need to supplemented with a Fifth for subcontractors.
But it has been fertile ground for making effective requests (which are consistently agreed to then broken) leading to opportunities to declare breakdowns, which leads to stories I tell myself, check ins, performance journaling, and constructive feedback.
