Recalibration Sachs, Marc (Ext. 226751) 26 Jul 2018 20:26 UTC

I find that recalibration is quickly becoming one of my most useful tools from Stagen. Having both Achiever and Competition in my 5 Strength Finder themes, I have come to realize that if I am not careful, I can quickly become overly excited and passionate in meetings to the point, that quite frankly, I take them over.

Last Friday we had an important workshop regarding Corporate Purpose and Vision. As I discussed the upcoming meeting with RPM, I realized how important it was going to be for me to “show up the right way”. I wanted everyone to provide meaningful input and for me to use the time to learn more about my partners than impose my ideas. I recalibrated often during the meeting and was able to remain focused on the goals I set out for myself. I am very pleased with the results.

For me, a good run on Lake Michigan started my day off centered in the right spot. During the meeting, quiet deep breaths while sitting tall did the trick. I have a tendency to recline during meetings and by forcing myself to be tall and grounded I was able to recenter, stay present, control my behaviors and listen to others.

On a side note: I have often pre-planned a meeting’s objectives, desired outcomes, road blocks and potential next steps. But this was one of the first times I have pre-performance journaled my own behavior. By thinking about my own performance ahead of time, I had a target for my recalibration during the meeting. I am excited about the results and will repeat the practice in the near future for key meetings.
