Positive No at Home and associated guilt

I hope everyone is having a good weekend and doing something other than catching up on Stagen material or any other work for that matter.
I had read the positive no a while back and it was very helpful for me, but I really only used it as it pertained to work / social responsibilities. I have tried to push it further over the last two weeks and have had some interesting results / thoughts.
I am trying to incorporate positive nos at home, with family members, etc. I have found that in order to do so, I have to deal with personal guilt and conflicting guiding principles. I then need to logically think about all of them, weigh the relative importance of each and make the best choice I can.
As an example, I landed a little early after being out of town for 2 days after a fully scheduled week. I had two options, both of which align with my values. I called my wife and the kids were getting in the pool, which would have been fun family time and a nice way to end a hectic business trip. However, I was behind on my exercise routine and needed to get a workout in knowing I didnt have time in the next few days. I thought about it and with a lot of guilt (I could hear my 3 year old pleading for me to swim with him in my head), I went to the gym. I felt bad for about 30 mins, then moved on mentally, had a great workout, and went home. I was then able to spend time with my family fully recharged and even convinced my wife to let me take my 3 year old swimming again after dinner. I also have the weekend with the family, but was able to push through the initial guilt to find a way to live up to more of my principles.
Sorry for the novel, but I found the self imposed guilt an interesting twist.
