Attention management wins and challenges Dub Snider 01 Mar 2018 17:11 UTC

1. What have I learned about how I manage my attention so far?

I am pretty good about DOING one thing at a time. And not as good at THINKING about one thing at a time.
I am noticing that while actually working on one thing, I am thinking about what else is on my to do list.
I am using technology to help with this:
1. I am using Siri to quickly capture a thought and then bring my attention back fully to the task at hand. (E.g. “Hey Siri, remind me to send an eJournal post regarding ...”)
2. I am keeping my to do list current so that I can tell myself, “that’s in your backlog, you won’t forget about it. Let it go for now”

What do I want to do better or more consistently?

1. Schedule time blocks for email review.
2. Schedule time blocks for email rule fine tuning. This is going to be an ongoing process for a while. And the playback is great.
3. Schedule more relationship time. The values work has helped me realize this is my highest priority. The blocks I have already scheduled are working great. And I want to allocate more time to these primary relationships.
4. Review calendar with Christy. We have started doing this more regularly, and I want to block time for this on a regular basis. One of the benefits is reduced miscommunication about schedules and plans. Another is that we are scheduling our joint priorities.
5. Build some processes around personal admin and tracking investment performance, so that this stays current. Particularly LP interests. Would love to hear how others do this so I don't have to reinvent the wheel or create an inferior one.
