Dickinson,

Positive SBI:

I was in New York visiting a client last week.  I was there with a new Account Director and was hoping she was prepared for the meeting.  Every question I asked her, she had an answer, was fantastic in front of clients, and had great next steps outlined.  In our Salesforce app we have the ability to give a Rockstar Moment.  A Rockstar Moment is something we see a Magnetic Mind do that emphasizes one of our core values.  Usually it is just one line "great job" with the value.  Took the opportunity to practice positive SBI.  I also realized I need to do this more often in general. Telling  Myself Stories:

The company has been integrating with our parent company.  Some of the systems and new policies are having an impact as far as change and creating inefficiencies. This change has created some negative mindsets.  I have an all company meeting this week that I want to address this head on.  I'm going to talk about change and how this will set the foundation for growth.  I'm going to hit on the Kubler-Ross change curve and also talk about how we need to shift our mindset a bit.

I found two quotes that reminded me of the echo chamber concept we have learned about:

Time Management:

Attached was an article in the paper yesterday.  Great reminders of our Time Management practices.  I almost deleted all my emails over a month old.  Just couldn't do it.  But did archive a lot.  😊

Spontaneity - Mindset Immersion Trip:

I typically go to BIG rock/pop/country shows.  In the last month, I have seen Metallica, Foo Fighters, and Justin Timberlake.  Yesterday, a friend of mine invited me out to watch the Gophers/Nebraska game at a local bar.  While I was there he asked if I wanted to go to Cedar Cultural Center and see Josh Rouse and Grant Lee Philips of Grant Lee Buffalo fame.  Before I said sure, he said, "It is not Foo Fighters, Metallica, or Motley Crue.  Not sure you will like it."  We then met up with his wife and friends.  His wife, who knows me well, "You know this is not like Foo Fighters or Metallica right?  It is mellow and I'm not sure you will like it. Might even be boring for you."   We arrive, I grab a beer and there are about 100 people in what I would describe as a high school gym with folding chairs.  Grant Lee Philips comes out with a acoustic guitar.  I asked my friend where the drums were and he laughed at me.  After Grant's set my friend said - "You are ready to go I suppose..."    At this point I'm getting a little annoyed, but I'm also realizing that my very good friend and his wife have a mindset of the type of music I like.  My self proclaimed "I like all music" was being challenged.  I would say I lean more towards Orange, Green and Red music.  This was Americana and more blue.  Singer/songwriter point of view and something I don't really listen to unless it is top 40/classic rock/80's, etc...

On some of the songs the artists told stories about why they wrote them.  This helped give the songs a deeper meaning.   Grant Lee wrote a song about Saint Expedite. Turns out Saint Expedite isn't a real saint.  Short story -  A crate with a Roman soldier statue showed up at a church in New Orleans with the word "Expedite" on it.  The statue was with other statues of Saints, but they couldn't figure out who this saint was.  They ended up chiseling in Saint Expedite into the statue.  When you need a quick prayer/help you would pray to Saint Expedite.  Pretty cool.

The acoustics in the cultural center were amazing.  I've lived here since 1998 and have never been there.  I have a new appreciation for the these small venues and the more indie side of music. Not for me all the time, but appreciate the depth in the music.  Now back to Guns N Roses!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Rockin,

Matt
