Dickinson,
Positive and Constructive Feedback:
Situation/Behavior/Impact
RPM and Maryellen, at the end of the teleclass today, I noticed the urgency to drive take away value after the telling ourselves stories exercise. I left the class energized with a lot
of ideas based on the rapid fire group sharing.
I provided constructive feedback to an employee yesterday and I forgot to talk about the Impact to me and use I statements. Went something like this: "Today in the meeting, you had great points, with that said I thought you could have been more clear in the asks of the group." She thanked me for the feedback. It probably would been better to say something like "Today in the meeting, when you gave your update, I was unclear of the points you were trying to make. In the future, I'd appreciate it if you could hit the key points and be clearer in the asks of the team."
Recalibration:
On Tuesday, I taught my EO group about recalibration. I told them what it was, how to do it, and the benefits I have received. They thought it was cool, but we didn't actually do it. Maryellen had a great idea to see if they would be open to starting each of our meetings with recalibration. I will try that next month and report back!
Active listening:
I've practiced this a few times this week. I find myself jumping to listening autobiographically. In my head I say "Stop It" and keep listening. It is pretty cool to pick a door and walk through it and the deeper insights/context I've learned trying this. An example of this is a conversation I had with a forum member. He is going through strategic coach and was talking about stoicism. I immediately went to Stagen and the Hero's Journey. But I stopped myself and said explain stoicism further. He then gave some examples of Bill Belichick and why he wears hoodies to games and when New England scores a touchdown there is basically no reaction. The reason is he is already onto to making decisions on the next play and next series. I googled it and found the attached meme.
Have a great weekend everyone!
