I enjoyed reading everyone’s post on this topic, it actually made me feel “normal” when I was self-evaluating. I am pretty much a hacker in most aspects of my life. Much like Mike, hunting, exercising, golf there is no better description for me than hacker, which I am ok with. The family and friends part is where I am trying to transition from Hacker to Mastery but that is proving to be a challenge. I do believe I have done the 10,000 hours with my career and believe I am in the mastery category but still learning new things every day. My hope is that I can apply some of the things that I have done professionally to achieve mastery to my personal life. Things like prioritizing getting home early, spending quality time, being patient with family members like I am with co-workers, working to understand problems before solving them. But ultimately its about me finding a sense of accomplishment and joy from what my family life will become just like I do when I think about my company. Writing down the core values was step one and now walking the talk is verifying that I am not there but I am making progress and aware of things I need to do more of and certain things I should do less of… hope everyone has a great weekend!
