my primary and secondary mindsets Stewart Hsu 04 May 2015 03:34 UTC

My primary is Orange. Right now, a major portion my satisfaction comes from achieving (for some reason, as I get older, I think it’s going to come from increased spiritual awareness). I want my company to grow and my employees & investors to win, and in turn reap the rewards for my family. The success of my company is directly tied to how fast I can learn & grow as a leader & entrepreneur. In college, I enjoyed reading Atlas Shrugged so much, I read The Fountainhead. Jim Collin’s Good to Great is my “business” bible, and Warren Buffet is one of my hero’s — whatever those 2 write, I love to read. Not to be shallow, but I was fascinated with this NY Times article on the Top 1%, so I could compare how I’m doing.

My secondary is Green. One of the most satisfying things about my company is that the 3 main groups of people we serve — our Employees, our Residents, and our Investors all win — it’s a virtuous cycle — the better we take care of one group, the more the other two groups benefit. The purpose of our company is “To benefit the lives of everyone we touch” — one of our leadership team came up with this purpose (not Carlos or myself) as part of an off-site all day working session, and the whole team felt it resonated well with them both individually and at a company level. I believe all religions have a common underlying truth and believe life is a continual discovery of self-awareness. I really enjoyed the diversity and openness of the culture in the SF Bay Area. One of my favorite quotes of all time is “The purpose of our lives is to add value to this generation and those that follow,” from Buckminster Fuller. “Make a difference” is one of our company's core values. Perhaps to a fault, I’m big on cooperation / harmony among the team in getting things done; I want everyone on our leadership team fully bought in on major decisions.
