As a speaker I got to connect with the indulgence of being active listened to. I will remember how I felt in the conversation and how I feel about conversing with Brian in the future.
On the flip side, I couldn't believe how much of a struggle it was to be an active listener. I felt my mind was in a curious mindset but while I didn't use direct autobiographical questions/comments (e.g. "Hey, I felt similar to that when I was a young entrepreneur. How is it different for you?") it snuck itself into my shotgun questions.
In hindsight I think my contributing personality kept wanting to "say something"/"offer something" and it was really hard to be an active participant and a good listener at the same time.
Here's to a lifelong practice!
