Being disciplined is hard work

The drama triangle really came into my life this week. Had to have a difficult conversation with an underperforming employee.
The ILP course has really caused me to focus much more on my role in the drama triangle. I'm much more aware that I tend to be the rescuer.
It was very difficult for me to stay firm and resolute in dealing with his underperformance. The time for reflection and weekly focusing allowed me to realize that I often come to the rescue of my employees to my own self detriment.
As I began to think about the issue with this individual, I quickly started to see myself moving into victim mode. With my resolution not to be the rescuer I then became angry and caught myself moving into the persecutor role.
Taking the time to get centered and talk through it with Nathanael allowed me to come up with what I hope is a great solution for him and for our company. I continued to be firm throughout our discussions but also very positive and upbeat about his potential if he's able to change his behavior.
It's amazing to me how so many small changes in my behavior and actions can make a huge difference in my overall life.
