Barrett, great example, one I identify with.

I've been using my white bracelet since ILP. It's humbling, and
embarrassing some times realizing how quickly I fall into "victim" role and
switch to persecutor to save face. This is especially true with my wife and
I. Rand's example with his wife is one I experienced on Sunday, and played
out nearly the same.

I'm leaving for Italy for a ten day anniversary trip with my wife. It will
be the most amount of time we've spent on vacation together. I'm determined
to stay out of the drama triangle during the trip, and to focus on the
"raisin" exercise. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you when I
return.

In gratitude,
Jason

	Great sharing from all !

I have noticed how often I am in conversations that move into the
drama triangle. Its amazing how I contribute to the continuation of the
drama triangle as I am simultaneously becoming aware of what is happening
and attempt to move the conversation (or at least my role in the
conversation) to an empowerment conversation. I have not been very
effective at really changing the conversation while I am in the middle of it
but having the awareness of it while it is happening has allowed me to avoid
the drama triangle in advance on future conversations.

In one conversation I was having with my wife it seemed the more I
tried to move the conversation from drama to empowerment the more she dug
her heels in to keep us in the drama triangle. This cause me to be
frustrated and then contribute to the drama triangle. It was a crazy
repeating loop I could not get out of with our leaving the room. The next
day I showed her the drama triangle diagram and explained to her what was
happening and how I was trying to move the conversation to empowerment.
This explanation started a new drama triangle, I again had difficulty in
changing the conversation but did the best I could to not react. Once again
it ended with one of us leaving the room. I then received an email from her
apologizing for her role in keeping us in the drama triangle and her
beginning to be aware of the drama triangle and a commitment to help me work
on avoiding the drama triangle when we communicate with each other. At
first the process seemed to be hurting not helping but I believe it ended up
with a small break through for us. The negative and frustrating conflict
ultimately lead to an opportunity for growth, this is a great illustration
of how we can be grateful for times in our life that seem to negative and
frustrating.

Thanks for sharing Brock! This was touching; I've never met your
kids, but could almost feel your son's happiness.

...Perhaps on a different scale, I face a similar struggle with my
kids (23 months and 3 months) and my wife and I have been in the DT a lot
because of it. At least a few times since Thursday, I was falling back into
victim mode (...'why are you attacking me for not spending enough time with
the kids, when I'm working my ass off, under pressure, up all hours, etc.
etc.). I noticed that when I was able to avoid the DT, my wife is a lot
calmer -- and all along, I was thinking she's the moody person. Gulp.
Rand's story about hearing his wife call him the 'wrong' way from the other
room -- hit me... again.

The self-awareness of my own thoughts & self-awareness of the DT,
has given me a 'sliver of space', that allows me to shift out of the DT, and
respond with questions like -- "well, what kind of life DO we want to
create?" My wife sort of looked at me like I was from another planet.
...At least the silence was better than me being "knee-jerk DT reactive" to
her and us spending more time & energy in the DT.

Will be trying to hold the "resourceful mindsets" for the weeks
ahead... hope I can keep it there long enough to become a habit I don't have
to think about.

...but for some reason, feels like living consciously and with
self-awareness is a daily moment-to-moment thing.

Here is a story to share about my newfound ILP awareness:
After reflecting on Walking the Talk and congruency, I
realized that I was not congruent with my family values. Today I set that
straight.
A family with strong, healthy bonds is extremely important
to me.
I am involved in several different organizations and boards
that involve travel on a fairly regular basis.
The volume of travel has become in issue with my wife, and
the kids are not so happy either.
This weekend, I let my son know that the Dallas trip to
Stagen was my last business trip of the calendar year. He beamed ear to ear.
It was in that moment that I decided to set things straight
and walk my talk.
Today I resigned from two very active Board of Director
positions which will cut my trips down by approximately 20 days over the
next year.
		I am so relieved!

Great to have you all sound off.

Mine: self authoring my values - do the people
around me share my values? Which are adopted? Which are constructed?
