Active Listening Observations

1. I have not been able to engage in Active Listening with everybody I intended to. There have been times where I have walked into a conversation or meeting with the intention to be actively listening, gather information, and hopefully have my counterpart come to conclusions on their own. Even when framing the conversation to give them a chance to talk and for me to listen, I still get very short sentences with not many doors to open.
2. When I get into a rhythm of active listening with someone than I really do not have to say much at all and the person i am engaging with often comes to solutions and ideas on their own.
3. There have been great opportunities recently during our 2020 planning sessions to do nothing but actively listen to the people who are going to be working the plan. I found it incredible challenging at these times to stay quiet and solely ask questions and not provide my input. This was often because we were not getting where I felt like we needed to get to quick enough. I have some work to do with patience in this department.
Thanks,
Jake
